


The Low-Energy Nuclear Physics Focus Area explores the physical mechanisms that underpin low-energy nuclear reactions, addresses gaps in nuclear data, and develops new methods and approaches vital for nonproliferation while cultivating the next generation of nuclear scientists and engineers equipped to confront future nuclear security challenges. Students in this focus area perform research at flagship low-energy nuclear science laboratories in the United States, including the Facility for Radioactive Ion Beams at Michigan State University, the National Ignition Facility at LLNL, the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center at LANL, and the 88-Inch Cyclotron at LBNL. Faculty and students work with an extensive and expanding network of national lab collaborators to perform basic nuclear physics research in support of nonproliferation needs.
