A major purpose of the NSSC is education, training, and experience for students and postdoctoral scholars in the areas of nuclear science, technology, and policy. This cross-cutting educational platform underlies the research and training activities of the Consortium and supports the congressional goals of the IUP to maintain and enhance long-term U.S. capabilities in nuclear science and engineering through investment that fosters career growth of future professionals. To develop well-rounded professionals ready to meet the nation’s nuclear security needs, our consortium combines national lab mentorship, classroom-based and online learning, national laboratory internships, workshops, and summer schools with the goal of producing students with a solid science and engineering foundation and a broad perspective on nuclear security issues.
