Daniel Rutstrom, NSSC Fellow at UTK, wins multiple awards including Innovations in Nuclear Technology R&D award

Congratulations to NSSC Fellow Daniel Rutstrom, an undergraduate at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville for his many recent accomplishments!

Daniel was named a 2018 Innovations in Nuclear Technology R&D Award Winner. Daniel won as part of the Competition for Students who Attend Universities with Less than $600M in 2015 Science and Engineering R&D Expenditures, for his work on Investigating new activators for small-bandgap LaX3 (X = Br, I) scintillators.

Daniel was also recently awarded the Silver Award from the Office of Research and Engagement, and 3rd place in the College of Engineering research category as part of The Exhibition of Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Daniel also received the Roberto Benson Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research.

Daniel works with faculty advisor Dr. Mariya Zhuravleva of UTK, and Dr. Bryan Chakoumakos of ORNL.
