There is an immediate opening for a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Nuclear Engineering at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville (UTK). The position will involve supporting a project focused on establishing a permanent fast neutron imaging facility at Consolidated Nuclear Services in Oak Ridge, TN, for both production use and to enable future work in non-proliferation programs. The successful candidate must have a PhD in Nuclear Engineering or Physics, strong computer programming skills, and a background in experimental research involving the detection and characterization of ionizing radiation. It is desired that the candidate will have familiarity with, as well as a theoretical understanding of, x-ray, neutron, and imaging detectors, including detector materials, analog and digital signal processing, statistical modeling, and data analysis. It is also desirable for the candidate to have familiarity with computer/instrument interfaces and experience with radiation transport calculations such as MCNP, GEANT4 and SCALE. Good human relations and communication skills are requisite. The ability to perform research and development in a collaborative environment is required, including excellent oral and written communication skills. U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy “Q” clearance is required. Publications and travel to conferences is expected. The initial appointment is for a period of 12 months with the possibility of renewal for up to an additional 24 months.
