You are invited to the SIGNAL play festival at UC Berkeley, to participate in the Largest Online Wargaming Event Ever! The play festival will be on November 12th at 3:00 pm in the NSSC Suite (2150 Shattuck Ave, Suite 230). Bring a laptop to play the online wargame alongside other gamers! We will have pizza! Bring your friends!

SIGNAL is a video game focused on understanding the issues surrounding nuclear deterrence and strategic stability. Thousands have signed up for SIGNAL since our public launch in May 2019 and our experimental wargaming concept has been featured in the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists and Science.
The SIGNAL play festival will bring together as many players as possible for a one-time event. Institutions across the country will be hosting SIGNAL parties to play the SIGNAL game together.

Postdoctoral Position Available at the University of Tennessee

There is an immediate opening for a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Nuclear Engineering at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville (UTK). The position will involve supporting a project focused on establishing a permanent fast neutron imaging facility at Consolidated Nuclear Services in Oak Ridge, TN, for both production use and to enable future work in non-proliferation programs. The successful candidate must have a PhD in Nuclear Engineering or Physics, strong computer programming skills, and a background in experimental research involving the detection and characterization of ionizing radiation. It is desired that the candidate will have familiarity with, as well as a theoretical understanding of, x-ray, neutron, and imaging detectors, including detector materials, analog and digital signal processing, statistical modeling, and data analysis. It is also desirable for the candidate to have familiarity with computer/instrument interfaces and experience with radiation transport calculations such as MCNP, GEANT4 and SCALE. Good human relations and communication skills are requisite. The ability to perform research and development in a collaborative environment is required, including excellent oral and written communication skills. U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy “Q” clearance is required. Publications and travel to conferences is expected. The initial appointment is for a period of 12 months with the possibility of renewal for up to an additional 24 months.
